*I apologize for the current state of this blog and will hopefully get it better organized soon, please come back*

As stated in whatever forum you found this in, I am interested in sexual assault/domestic violence/abuse/rape/etc in the ASD community. Any vulnerable population is at a higher risk of these things. People on the spectrum (autistic, aspie, etc) are for a number of reasons very much at risk. I am interested in knowing what sexual education is like when it is specifically targeted for this population and if it addresses any of these things. Additionally, for those of us educated in a more mainstream setting, whether we understand some of the (added) dangers.

I would like to learn about what exists now as well as help improve for the future the following:

  • Sexual education for people on the spectrum
  • Prevention of these types of things from happening to people on the spectrum (at least prevention to a level closer to the general population)
  • Tools for people who find themselves in those situations that are directly tailored for their needs
  • Education and information for medical professionals and others who have contact with people on the spectrum to better understand the unique needs of the population

There are more things on the list but those are the ones currently that I am thinking about (feel free to comment if you want me to add anything)

My plan at the moment is to divide this blog into:

  • my own (more personal) discussions of being on the spectrum in general
  • a brainstorming area of questions, lists, etc relating to these topics
  • my more detailed writing on some of the issues involved
  • resources/articles/etc about these issues and links to things to help as well as some information about vulnerable populations

I actually considered doing my thesis on a similar topic. I’d be happy to help/be interviewed for data.
